The feast of Panagia (Dormition of the Virgin Mary) in the village of Filoti is the largest and most famous traditional festival (panigiri) in Naxos. Every August 15th, the village's central square, shaded by an iconic plane tree, comes alive as locals and travelers gather to celebrate together.
The event begins with a holy service at the historic church of Panagia Filotitissa and quickly transitions into a massive open-air party. Renowned local musicians set the rhythm with violins and lutes, while local wine and traditional Naxian meats (like slow-cooked goat) are served. If you want to experience an authentic Greek island celebration that lasts until the morning hours, this three-day event is an absolute must-visit.
